Windows

  • What is a triple pane window?

    A Triple Pane window utilizes 3 panes of glass and two coatings of soft coat Low-E and Argon gas to deliver the most energy efficient window we carry.

  • What does the term “Low-E” Glass mean?

    Low-Emissivity (Low-E) is coating that increases the windows ability to diminish heat transfer, thus saving heating and cooling costs. Bruin’s replacement windows are made with Low-E glass.

  • What is the Argon Gas in a replacement window?

    Argon is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable, non-reactive, inert gas. Filling between glass panes in a window with argon gas improves window performance by reducing conductive and convective heat transfers.

  • What happens if I break the glass in my window, do I need to replace the entire window?

    If you break the glass panes in your window, chances are you do not need to replace the entire window, you just need to replace the glass. Whether triple, single or double-pane, Bruin offers expert glass replacement services.

  • I need new interior trim on my replacement windows?

    That's the beauty of a custom-made replacement window. Most applications call for the window to go into the existing opening with just minimal disruption to the trim. Some touch-up may be required but your trim will stay as is. If you are installing “new construction” replacement windows, then you will need new interior trim.

  • If I am replacing my windows, can I get new trim or new sills because mine are rotted?

    Absolutely! All our installers are finished carpenters and can provide all the material and skilled labor required to custom trim your window.

  • Do I need to replace my outside trim if I am replacing my windows?

    Since replacement windows go from the inside, there is no disruption on the outside. Many customers request that Bruin custom wrap the exterior frame with aluminum coil in order to make the exterior trim as beautiful and easy to care for as the window is.

  • Can I really have a custom painted vinyl replacement window?

    Absolutely! Our main supplier can custom paint the interior or exterior of any vinyl window any color you desire. You are no longer bound to white or sand! Simply provide us with the source, the color, the finish and they'll do the rest! Perfect match, every time.

  • Can Bruin replace my aluminum window?

    Yes, Bruin has replaced many of these window types. We perform this work for residential and our commercial customers. Give us a call to learn more.

  • Do How long does it take to replace a window?

    Bruin is very efficient in allocating the right labor for the right job. The average home takes 1-2 days for a basic installation and 2-4 days if more work is required. We work on one house at a time and our installers will walk you through a final inspection.

  • How long do I need to wait for my new windows?

    All custom made windows are manufactured to the exact sizes required. Our lead-time is normally 6-8 weeks but depends upon the time of the year. Your best bet is to call today at 1-800-4-Bruins and schedule an appointment so you can start to enjoy your windows next month.

  • How are my new replacement windows installed?

    Your new custom manufactured replacement windows are installed from the inside. Our trained installers will gently score the casings, remove the old window, prepare the opening and install your new window. We'll then caulk the exterior and interior and dispose of the old window.

Doors

  • How are new doors installed?

    Bruin starts the project by removing the interior casings and accessing the frame of the door. We disengage the old door and dispose of it. The installers will insert the new door, level it and then secure it in place. When this is done the trim is reinstalled and the door is caulked around the perimeter.

  • I think my sill is rotted?

    No problem, our installers are instructed to never cover over any rotted wood. We'll replace the sill if needed and your new door will come with a durable maintenance free aluminum sill.

  • Do I need a new door?

    If you can feel a draft or if it feels like an icebox by any of your doors, it's time to consider a new energy efficient door. Today's door replacement includes a better insulated door slab, energy efficient sills and more complete weather stripping. A new door will provide beauty and savings and will pay for itself in a very short time.

  • There are so many different doors to choose from, how can I pick one?

    Very easy! Take a ride around your neighborhood and look at the doors on homes. Do you prefer the simplicity of a 6 panel door or do you wish for the beauty and elegance of cut glass? Then call Bruin and our design consultants will listen to your needs and make appropriate suggestions. At the end of the consult, we'll give you a to-the penny price.

  • What if I need new hardware as well?

    No problem. Bruin is offers the latest in lockset designs from Schalge in a variety of finishes and styles all installed and backed by Bruin.

  • What if I don't want to paint my doors?

    Consider the beauty and strength of a PROVIA Door. This fine product is available in many different colors and stains with a factory applied finished. We have a PROVIA Door installed in our showroom.


Roofing

  • Will I need to replace my gutters if I replace my roof?

    Not necessarily but if your gutters and downspouts are the same age as your existing roof, you may need to. Bruin has been professionally installing gutters and downspouts in New England homes for years and can work with you to choose the right materials and colors for your home. Gutters and downspouts are made out of aluminum, vinyl, galvanized steel, stainless steel and copper as well as wood. Wood, however, is typically used only in restoring older homes.


Insulation

  • Are any insulation options green alternatives?

    Cellulose insulation is comprised of all recycled materials and is a “green” insulation option.

  • What is the difference between cellulose and fiberglass insulation?

    Fiberglass insulation is made primarily from a mixture of sand and materials such as glass that are spun together in to fine fibers.


    Cellulose insulation is made almost exclusively from over-issue news which is the highest quality newsprint available. Carefully blended with special chemicals, cellulose insulation provides optimum density and permanent fire retardant.

  • How do I know if my home needs insulation?

    If your home was built prior to 1970, chances are that the walls have no insulation. If you home was built in more recent years, chances are that some of your insulation has become less effective over time and there is also a good chance that your home has insufficient insulation in your attic, basement, garage or in your walls. Proper insulation is one of the items reviewed during a home energy audit.

  • What is the MASS Save Program?

    The MASS Save Home Energy Services Program is coordinated by the MASS Save initiative which was formed by the Massachusetts DOE in conjunction with Massachusetts energy providers. The process starts when a home energy audit is conducted to identify where a home’s energy efficiency can be improved. Under the program, Massachusetts homeowners can receive incentives and rebates on energy efficiency updates to their home including insulation and air sealing.


Siding

  • What is involved in siding a home?

    At Bruin, we specialize in the details. The first thing we'll do is provide a free consultation to determine your needs and listen to your concerns. We'll show you the materials, explain the process and offer you a competitive price. We can make suggestions and recommendations on how to proceed, show pictures of similar projects and provide a list of addresses so you can see the color of your choice on an existing home. After you've made your decision, our trained installers will treat your home like it was their own.

  • Is Bruin VSI Certified?

    Yes. Bruin believes that maintaining industry standards is critical when undertaking any home improvement endeavor. Even if you invest in a great product if it is not installed properly, you run the risk of the product not performing as it should. At Bruin, we believe that the product is only as good as the installers which is why we make sure our installers are properly trained and certified.
