Winter Pests are Heading Indoors!
It's that time of year when mice, rats, and squirrels make their way into the comfort of the warm dark spaces in your house to escape the cold winter ahead. While ideal for them, for you it means damage to your home and health risks for your family.
Squirrels look like cute little furballs at first sight, but they are a bigger problem than one would anticipate. The rodents are considered pests because of their chewing habits, and they are famous for causing plenty of damage to houses.
Animals in the Attic?
Squirrels chew holes above gutters and the corners of trim to get into your home. And you may not realize it, but there are also a number of holes outside your home that welcome rodents inside including chimneys, vents, gaps in siding, roof lines, and entry points for wires and pipes. They are known to prey on older roof shingles and siding that has started to wear and break-down over the years.
Even poorly installed newer roofs offer entry points for curious rodents looking for a place to call home for the winter. Once a squirrel gains access to the attic, they can build a nest in the fiberglass insulation or just use the attic to store their food. Your average squirrel is far from house-friendly. They are known chew threw wiring, which creates dead circuits and fire hazards.
